Oman: Part 01: 1000-1009: Ibadi Pirates of The Indian Ocean

Playing as Ibadi Oman. As historical character is some old guy without sons of totally unknown dynasty, I decided to create a custom character.

Since mod has ruler designer feature that I can choose my dynasty, I decided to be younger half-brother of the last living male line descendant of caliph Ali, the one who started the whole Sunni-Shia business. The dynasty is just the two of us.

Starting character is Yusuf Hashimid - strong, left-handed (CK2+ trait), sayyid, brave, greedy, briliant strategist, 2/17/9/6/3. All unimpresive except for +8 personal combat skill.

Early goals are to become king and caliph, conquer Arabian coastline, have a lot of sons, and raid everywhere. Beyond that, not even sure.

I married a genius daughter of Finnish chief as a way to spread the faith to pagan lands, and then daughter of Umayyad sultan of Andalusia, daughter of Soomra sultan of Sindhsister of Fatimid caliph of Egypt.

I got my older brother married to daughters of 4 emirs and gave him some land.

I started looting and then I noticed that mod nerfed looting by 4:1. At such rate, it barely pays for levy upkeep, so I reverted it to vanilla levels. I guess you get prestige, some prisoners etc., so it's tiny net profit, but overall bad change.

Fatimid's caliph's daughter cheated on me, got caught, and then died in childbirth - God obviously punished her. Another wife got cancer. Replacement wife got flu. And one of my daughter had rabies. All within first 6 years, with Reaper's Due set to reduced.

At this point due to limitations of initial setup nobody who was anybody within Muslim world had any marriagable relatives, so I married two lowborn women.

I improved my stats to 2/27/11/11/9 and signed up to Hermetic Society (by briefly getting learning over 10). Ibadi don't have any monastic orders, and satanists don't really appeal to me, but for a greedy bastard like me converting lead into gold? What could be more important!

After raiding for a while I managed to get enough gold and piety that I could attack Qarmatians to the North for emirate of Amman, create kingdom of Oman with those two duchies, and get crowned.

During coronation festivities I befriended sultan of Andalusia and we made a formal alliance.

So far I have 3 sons, 3 daughters (not counting one who died of rabies), 2 nephews, 1 niece, so dynasty is probably going to survive.

Sunni Turkish invader Seljuk conquered most of Persia, so I arrange a marriage of my daughter to his son. He only has 6k/30k of his original event troops, so he wouldn't even be such a huge problem.

A much bigger threat to me is Shia Fatimid Caliph of Egypt al-Hakim the Cruel with 22k troops to mine 7k. I thought I'd get a ton of gold from raiding saved by now, but somehow I spent nearly all of it. That means more raiding I guess.
#ck2

That big Persia is not going to last. Seljuk is coming from Khorasan. As Muslim I spent so much piety on law charges I don't have any left for holy wars.

Weirdly Sunni caliph is satrap of Baghdad under Shia sultan of Persia. I suspect it will fall soon and the Umayyads in Andalusia will recreate the Sunni caliphate.

Bulgaria and Persia were both doomed by special CBs. I feel reasonably safe in my corner, not bordering Shia Fatimid Caliph in Egypt. Of course this won't last forever and Sunni / Qarmatian / Shia minors between us will fall, leading to inevitable conflict.

Best case scenario is that Romans, Franks, Turks, or Umayyads attack the Caliph, and then I move in to seize the holy cities.

Oman: Part 02: 1009-1021: Wizard Duels

4 wives means a lot of children, so a lot of marriage alliances even without seduction focus.

I even managed to ally Roman Emperor soon after my friend and ally Umayyad sultan died.

I somehow managed to arrange a betrothal with the Shia Caliph, which meant I could attack Shia Yemen freely.

Attack from every direction managed to eliminate Qarmatians, worthless tribal desert divided between me, Caliph of Egypt, and Mesopotamia (formerly Persia). That pretty much cleared Arabian minors. For some reason mod blocks holy wars CB over sea zones, I don't really agree with this decision, it's probably to prevent Italians from taking over North Africa as they usually do.

I did some raiding, some duelling, leading troops into battle, not much interesting came out of it yet, but it increased by martial stat considerably.

We invented Magnetic Compas and Handgun - which I use in duels, having total personal combat skill of +18, which I've never seen anyone have, but character search reveals some people with up to +17. I guess mod makes it a lot easier.

I became Grand Magus of the Hermetic Society by challenging previous one to a duel. Which is exactly how wizards do it, right? And handgun in 1021 is basically a magic wand!
#ck2

Caliph of Egypt is slowly winning against big council power revolt.
Seljuk's son Arslan lost some land to Afghanistan and now former sultan of Persia is trying to push the Turks even further.

It seems that my marital bet on Seljuks missed, but I have a lot of children and can make a lot of bets.

Oldest son died in suspicious circumstances, but there's more where that came from. Heir is left-handed genius.

Oman: Part 03: 1021-1032: Caliph Yusuf the Ruthless

There's actually more battle events than I thought, I fought Abyssinia and ended up in multiple battlefield duels in one battle, capturing their king and winning the war quickly.

I spent over 1200 gold on top quality scimtar, which I named The Golden Scimtar based on the tag. +3 martial, +2 personal combat skill, +0.75 monthly prestige. But I can't use both that and my magic fire ward which gives +1 learning, +2 personal combat skill, +1 monthyl presitge, and +20% morale damage, so I'm not even sure why I paid for it. It's shiny I guess.

My wife found me what she claims to be a Tooth of Mohammad.

I organized epic tournament and won it, getting +1 personal combat skill as the winner. My son (personal combat skill 6) got second place. One might almost suspect it was rigged.

I got a pet cat when hiding during epidemic of consumption.

Gujarat was prime looting ground - it bugged out and all top level holdings were temples. With -50% wrong government type and -30% maintaining merc band they were basically undefended temples. So whenever recently looted modifier expires I can send my troops over for very quick 200 gold.

To make raiding India even easier I got Maldives by fabricated claim.

Depressed Caliph of Egypt commited suicide. Independence revolt broke away some lands from his son.

One of my sons became decadent, but since the mod changes decadence system I have no idea what that even does. I have 4 landed sons, and quite a few nephews and grandsons so succession is secude.

To create caliphate I need 2 of 3: be sayyid, have 1000 piety, and control right holy places. I avoided war with Egypt so far, but I managed to squeeze 1000 piety and declared myself 3rd caliph.

CK2 unfortunately doesn't have colored wastelands option, so my name on the map looks derpy, and I don't think it can be fixed without a lot of blobbing.

For a while king of Leon and Galicia was next in line to post of Grand Magus. I haven't really see major rulers do that too often, usually it's just random bishops and mayors.

Somehow the Christians managed not to split yet.

Oman: Part 04: 1032-1040: Sultan Aram the Usurper of Egypt

The Muslim world is very diverse and not dominated by just a few blobs or any simple geographic distribution. East to West:

• two Sunni hordes, Khwarizm (Karluk) and Altsikur (Bolgar) - busy fighting Tengri Mongol, Tengri Cuman, and Jewish Khazan hordes
• Shia Panjabi Soomra Sindh
• Sunni Turkish Ghaznavid Afghanistan
• Sunni Turkish Seljuk Khiva
• Shia Persian Buyid Mesopotamia
• Sunni Levantine Abbasid Caliph in Baghdad, vassal of Persia
• Sunni Levantine Wahadid Syria, recently won liberation revolt against their Shia Bedouin emir
• Shia Egyptian Fatimid Calpih of Egypt and Arabia, married to my daughter
• Sunni Andalusian Umayyad Andalusia, guaranteed to take Sunni caliphate if Abbasids lose it
• Shia Maghrebi Baghawatid Morocco
• Shia Mande Ghana
• Sunni Mande Tarkur
• a lot of Sunni, Shia, and even some Kharjite independent emirs, of a lot of different cultures

Both peasants and rulers in every part of the Muslim world are a mix of Sunni and Shia with a handful of less common varieties. I think 1000 start is the only bookmarks of this kind.

I managed to get rid of "Ruthless" nickname and become a much nicer "Fearless".

I attacked shah of Mesopotamia for Basra, then challenged him to a duel as a way around truce timers, since I didn't have any truce with his heir. It's a nice trick, but not everybody accepts.

Seljuks got defeated so hard Persia went Zoroastrian. Sunni uprising tried to take it back, but failed.

I managed to somehow get alliances with Romans and what was left of Seljuks, and decided that my decadent son Aram, grandson of previous caliph of Egypt on his mother's side, deserves to have Egypt more than damn alliance breaker Ahmad! What he got was a fairly small Egypt and still tribal, but it still effectively disrupted Fatimids. I'm not really sure how game decides how much of wargoal de jure land gets taken, very often it's not that much.

After that somehow my non-aggression pact with the Fatimid caliph resumed.

My heir Abdul-Wahab was super unhappy about that and declared rivalry war on my son Aram, now sultan of Egypt. My other surviving son Aghlab and various grandsons were reportedly binging on popcorn watching two top heirs fighting it out. Somehow the war ended inconclusively and they stopped being rivals.

And almost as soon as the rivalry war ended sultan Aram got attacked by revolt. I'm not sure why I can't offer to join his war.

I'm now third in line to Egypt after Aram's 8 year old twins, and Aram is pretty high in line to Oman, so with Medieval medicine it wouldn't be shocking if both kingdoms got unified.

Oman: Part 05: 1040-1048: Death of Lust

I was really annoyed that I couldn't join my son's war against his rebellious vassals, but that's not even the mod, vanilla has the same stupid limitation, my usual modpack just removed it.

The revolt leader was a Jewish mahoz of Alexandria. What the hell was going on in Egypt before? I get Shias, Sunnis, and maybe even some Coptics and Zoroastrians, but a duke-tier Jew? Well, his father was Shia, so presumably it's just another case of AI assigning guardians at random.

Well, I could have used console to add myself to the war, but this time I just raided the revolt, destroyed their armies, sacked their castles, and sent my son just enough money so he wouldn't go bankrupt - I mean, I want him to keep the title, but I'm still greedy.

All that required a ton of babysitting, and then they white peaced at 92% warscore.

Seljuks have been beaten by everything so hard third Seljuk ruler committed suicide at 34.

Kingdom of Mesopotamia was invaded by Tengri Cuman adventurer - lunatic dishonorable cannibal with great pox. He came from steppes, conquered Azerbaijan and then Mesopotamia. As he was duke-tier, subjugating that destroyed duke-tier title of Sunni Caliphate of Baghdad. So one caliph out.

So Khwarizm horde was inherited by a Manichean, Persia is now Zoroastrian merchant republic vs Zoroastrian shah civil war, Mesopotamia is Tengri, Romans took Syrian coastline, and Fatimid caliphate fragmented into infighting minors. Great jobs caliphs! I guess Fatimids are slowly reassembling their realm.

My brother's male line died out completely.

My genius son died as well, with a rather unremarkable decadent grandson being next in line, but somehow I managed to talk him out of the decadence, and he ran straight to Mecca after that.

Somehow I got challenged to a duel by my prisores, which really shouldn't be a thing, and ended up losing in spite of +20 vs +8 personal combat skill.

And as lustful old man with 4 young wives, I died to heart attack during sex event, after dodging it a few times before.

Meanwhile Roman Empire got conquered by a claimant.

The sucessor is Hussayn Hashimid, 21 year old 9/9/8/10/11 naive appeaser. Sayyid, skilled fighter, hajajj (because I talked him into this), scarred, stubborn, ambitious, slothful, arbitrary, and cynical person.

Hussayn and his brother Arab covet each others' kingdoms. Resurgent Fatimid Caliph is also quite interested.
#ck2

Destroyer of the Sunni Caliphate, not recreated yet. Umayyads will probably take it and be much stronger caliphs than what was left of Abbasids.

Yusuf failed his dream of ruling over Mecca and Medina, but still accomplished so much. All his succession plans failed as well, and his preferred heir Abdul-Wahab died in suspicious circumstances just year before Yusuf.

Most annoying loss was how Fatimid caliph kept half of Egypt when he lost the war for it. I don't really agree with this CB.

Oman: Part 06: 1048-1060: Caliph Hussayn the Great

I sorted out my realm on succession, got rid of one cheating wife, married out everybody I could. It was fairly smooth.

Apparently getting The Great as nickname required little more than looting half of Indian coastline.

Fatimid Caliph Ahmad managed to get his shattered realm together and attacked Egypt with 30k vs ours 5k and 12k. I couldn't help much without Suez Canal, especially as I was also fighting Copts and peasants the same time.

The strategy was to stall Caliph Ahmad's war until he died natural death at 45 and his much less popular heir Walid took over.

As soon as we somehow squeezed the win, I declared war for the holy cities, calling in favors from Romans, Syria, and Egypt. Caliph got Morocco and some Turks join his war, but it's not like Morocco can walk all the way in time.

I didn't just 100%, I captured the caliph and cut his balls. Still had 5 brothers, but child mortality is pretty high.

I then I plotted against the caliph, and all 4 of his wives really did not approve of his deficiencies down there. So far nothing came out of it.

Egypt soon got inherited by my decadent cousin, and fell apart to independence revolt, leaving it with just 5 counties.

Amazingly Christians are still together, and The Sunni Caliphate remains abolished.

Oman: Part 07: 1060-1067: Fall of Fatimids

Caliph Walid Fatimid had an accident. His successor al-Hakim II had 30k troops, so without waiting for any silliness I immediately declared war and called in Romans and Syria in.

I managed to loot Hair from the Beard of Mohammad while sacking Cairo. Why did it take them so long to add artifacts to the game?

The goal of the war wasn't really one duchy, it was getting most of de jure Arabia, usurping that, and shattering Fatimid caliph's realm into pieces. Of course that meant Sicily and Jerusalem will likely to fall into Christian hands, but better Romans than fake caliphs.

As I called Romans into my wars, I offered to join their wars a few times. Trivial ones against peasants, but apparently that's good enough to repay the favor.

Egypt was a hopeless case, my cousin got deposed by his vassals and another family member got in charge, and vassal revolt was fighting peasant revolts. They'd probably be better off abolishing the title completely, and I have a claim, but is it my problem? Can't see how. Well, and eventually it got destroyed completely by this infighting.

One of my wives was really old so I got her killed and married Ethiopian princess Abeda instead. They say I'm "arbitrary" and "dishonorable", silly commoners, they just don't understand.

I also married emira of Waddan, who's Tamazight Pagan. What does that mean? No idea. I also arranged marriage for her sister, so one way or the other Waddan will join the true faith.

Continuing Muslim collapse, Buddhhist uprising took over Afghanistan, pushing Ghaznavids to just sultans of Baluchistan. And Jerusalem fell to the Romans as I predicted. Can't followers of false caliphs see that it's God punishing them for this mistake? Sunnis don't even have a Caliph any more.

My son and heir became decadent, tarnishing our dynasty's reputation.

I fell in love with Abeda, and I wanted to give her a proper gift for our anniversary. How about Abyssinia, would that be appropriate? I mean, it's mostly wasteland not a proper country, but she shares their silly believes and refuses to even consider Ibadi truth, and who am I to insist otherwise, some kind of Caliph? Oh, right.

I gave her Abyssinia, and only then she told me it's inherited by agnatic seniority. You could have said something earlier woman... Well, there are only two men of house Zagwe, so there's a chance.

Emira of Waddan died in childbirth, so my son got it really quickly. Then again who knows what he's going to become, growing up among savages.
#ck2

Romans got Jerusalem, the Western Romans are infighting, and Christianity is still unified. Even Derbent blob went from Tengri to Christian. Pecheneg and Osenevich hordes are Christian too.

That's some epic performance and only help they got from we was us breaking Fatimids together.

Oman: Part 08: 1067-1075: Caliph Abdullah the Screwd

The game has two really obnoxious bugs - one is everybody becoming everybody else's ally. The other is alliances breaking at random. I'm not sure if that's the mod, or something about latest patch. Like my alliance with my wife broke by such bug. And add_alliance command doesn't really work.

Surprising absolutly nobody my wife Abeba instantly faced two revolts. And then alliance broke by the bug, and she wouldn't to really accept as wife / lover / +100 relations (+228 actually, but there's a cap). It was messy console nonsense to get it back.

A few revolts later we had some peace, so Abeba organized her coronation, while I organized a grand tournament. I tried my best, but didn't achieve much in it.

I became Grand Magus, and challenged one of my wife's brother to a duel, with magic fire wand working quite well, even if I never reached legendary level of my grandfather. Her other brother had an accident, so that cleared the whole agnatic seniority nonsense.

We had a son, so I assumed it would fallback to primogeniture succession (as wiki claims), but somehow some random vassal was Abeba's heir, not our son.

Then I got wounded while trying to train to be a better fighter, it got infected, and I died.

Any plan to make prince Ali unite Oman and Abyssinia died early, as he was just 3, and decadent oldest son Abdullah took the throne instead.

Abdullah, 7/17/18/9/7 at age of 25 is pretty decent. He's midas touched, strong, sayyid, skilled fighter, decadent, deceitful, diligent, proud, and just.

Will he abandon his decadent ways? Or will he abandon the whole Caliphate instead? Only time will tell.

Western Romans fought Eastern Romans over some county of Teate in Italy and won. Soon afterwards both Roman Empires engaged in major civil wars.
#ck2

The whole Islam thing is not going too well. Sunni Caliphate destroyed, Shia Caliphate in pieces, and now the new Ibadi Caliph is decadent.

Oman: Part 09: 1075-1083: The Great Schism

Queen Abeba of Abyssinia agreed to remarry me after her husband and my father died. A few generations of this, and we'll have to go Zoroastrian. And then I unpaused, AI calculations reset, and she refused. Damn it all! Actually nobody significant was willing to arrange a marriage alliance.

Well, as I'm Proud, Just, Diligent, and Deceitful I decided to put some effort into all the Caliph duty - at least publicly, so I went to Mecca and ended my decadent behaviour, at least in public. In private I had quite a few bastard daughters, but as long as the faithful don't know, it won't hurt them. The hajj made me ambitious.

On 13 September 1075 Great Schism finally happened, somewhat along historical lines.

I continued family tradition by joining the Hermetic Society - I mean, we have such a stash of Hermetic artifacts, it would be a shame not to use them! My first attempt at stargazing backfired so hard, weather was awful, I got depressed. A while later I learned how to brew a potion to fix it.

I got Sinai from Fatimid Caliph and I had enough ships to extend my raiding operation from India to Mediterranean. I tried sacking Rome, but one of submods I have added unique huge walls to it - which honestly it didn't have hisotrically in that time.

Shia Caliph declared Jihad for Jerusalem against the Romans. It went about as well as one might expect just looking at the map.
#ck2

This is crazy close to historical outcome, including historical mixed religion places like steppes and Caucasus.

The only chance caliph's attack on the Big Purple Blob had was if it got into major war with the Big Grey Blob same time. It was just a mob of tiny stacks.

Muslim Sicily or heretic Christians in Western Europe can't trigger crusades (at least in vanilla), so no idea if they'll ever happen.

Oman: Part 10: 1083-1087: Conquest of Egypt

The great schism between Rome and Constantinople wasn't very lasting. Successor of Roman Emperor turned out to be a Catholic who refused to choose convert option. That renamed Eastern Roman Empire, made it lost its de jure land, and worst of all made it poo-colored, which guarantees some serious shit with his vassals.

It took almost no time for the unfortunate basileus Pothos the Hammer to lose half his empire, and if it wasn't enough of a fail his heir and distant relative is a Georgian Orthodox.

Emperor's remaining vassals are also of very questionable loyalty.

Liberation revolt reestablished sultanate of Egypt, which was obvious challenge to my family's legitimate claim to it. And since I was conquering Egypt, I decided to cleanup all the minor Shia and Coptic emirs as well.

Queen Abeba changed from Coptic to Monophisite. I'm still going to press my brother's claim to it once she dies.

Two cadet branches of Hashimid dynasty got established. I really dislike it, especially that early. It's not like we have enormous dynasty. Ali should outright inherit, there's nobody of Abeba's dynasty left, and he's her only child.
#ck2

Hard religion-lock fucked both empires in my previous campaign, and it's especially ridiculous here, where this poo-colored monstrosity appears out of nowhere 8 years after the schism.

Overall, it was a horrible idea. For this even a cosmetic tag would be wrong.

Oman: Part 11: 1087-1094: One Plot Two Kingdoms One Ark

I expanded all the way West along the coast just so I can diplovassalize Waddan, which is ruled by my half-brother, but the damn fool decided to start own dynasty and there's a stack of relationship penalties preventing diplovassalization.

Islam was doing so poorly that Sindh went Jewish for a generation, presumably due to AI random guardian assignment.

I had one more idea for Queen Abeba - that maybe once she's older than 45 the "would prefer a Matrilineal Marriage" modifier would go away. It didn't, but somehow this time I squeezed in a marriage. But she still wouldn't form a damn alliance.

Abeba managed to press her claim on Nubia. And what happened next was just hilarious - since as a man I can usurp my wife's titles by plot, and her vassals were totally on board with some generous gifts - one plot, two kingdoms. I had this plan one caliph ago, and back then it was just for one kingdom.

Well, if the game worked properly my brother would have inherited it.

Just one county de jure war, and the result were possibly the cleanest borders I've ever had.

One thing she kept was her treasure - including Ark of the Covenant! Well, she was quite old, and when she got cancer I conveniently forgot to mention that to my court physician...

And I found the Emerald Tablet as well, but seriously, Ark of the Covenant. Well, I can't use it unless I'm a Christian or a Jew. I mean, I have Tooth of Mohammad and Hair from the Beard of Mohammad, but that's not even close. Such an opportunity for major change in history of Oman.

Meanwhile elsewhere the Western Roman Emperor got himself excommunicated, and faction installed one more to Pope's liking. And Christianity had such a great time before their dumb schism.

Andalusia flipped to Shia, so there's now mostly pattern:
• Tarkur Sunni
• Spain / West Africa / Sicily Shia
• East Africa / Arabia Ibadi
• Palestine Shia
• Syria / Mesopotamia Sunni
• Persia Zoroastrian
• Afghanistan Buddhist
• Muslim parts of Central Asia Sunni (but mostly non-Muslim)
• Indus Valley Shia
• Altsikur horde Sunni

Or roughly Shia - Ibadi - Sunni.

I suspect local minority religions will keep getting wrecked as time goes.

Seljuks lost completely. Ghaznavids have one duchy left but still style themselves sultans of "Baluchistan". Sindh was briefly Jewish, now it's back to Shia but getting overran. Emirate of Tunis is somehow Jain.
#ck2

Queen Abeba, last of house Zagwe. I had so many plans involving her, and the eventual result definitely delivered.

Very clean borders, and obvious sign from God that I'm on the wrong religious track.

Oman: Part 12: 1094-1101: Spreading Chaos

I supposedly became arbitrary as a result of hunting failure, which was totally my retainers' fault. I have 36 learning, obviously the unlearned masses just don't understand sophistication of my plans!

I had a lot of really fun ideas how to show them my genius, but when tested, most of them failed due to interactions of obscure mechanics.

Well, one thing I wanted to do for sure was breaking Shia power, so I holy warred Sicily and the Shia Caliph, and claim warred Andalusia. After the war I granted Sicily to the Jews, made all Andalusian emirs independent, and abolished that silly title. That should make the region more peaceful, right?

When Latin Empire was going through another independence revolt I sent a raiding expedition for double task of helping the revolt win and getting a lot of easy loot.

The Assassins killed my brother. And I liked that one! I have a few other brothers I could recommend for them instead. Is there any way we can negotiate brother choices?

Shia Caliph attacked me for like 3rd or 4th time with silly claim war. Then Jain emir of Tunis attacked me. Seriously, what's up with this insane AI aggressiveness?

I was enjoying how Estern Roman Empire was falling apart, so I found Orthodox claimant to the Western Roman Empire and pressed her claim. Tuscany was not amused and seceded right away.

It's a fun reversal with Catholic Greek man in Constantinople (with Georgian Orthodox heir) and Orthodox German woman in Germany (with Catholic German elective heir).

Meanwhile my nephew Leon, king of France, is married to my sister Setara, and they're second most powerful Christian monarchs after England. I wonder if it's true what they say about risks of close relatives marrying...
#ck2

Top 4 strongest countries are: Oman, England, France, and Ireland. Looks like it would be a fun EU4 export so far.

Quick conversion test shows that it works OKist except it targets 1.19, so there are map gaps etc. Could probably be fixed with a few hours, especially since I know what it does now.

Oman: Part 13: 1101-1107: Gavelkind Time

I inherited inland emirate of Zab in Algeria from a relative, and I really didn't want it, so I gave it to the Jews as well. They need a place to live, and let's face it - there's no way anyone will let them live in Jerusalem. I had to save my Jews from Sunni uprising.

My marshal found a Letter of Mohammad. It's nice, but it's not an Ark of the Covenant.

I finally sacked Rome.

New Byzantine Empire got created - a theocracy ruled by Ecumenical Patriarch and up to this point feudal king of Armenia.

It was time to think about succession. My surviving sons were:

• Hussayn, emir of Alexandria - 12/8/6/7/17 dutiful cleric
• Musa, emir of Ascalon - 8/6/6/8/4 skilled tactician
• Abdullah, emir of Damietta - 6/14/8/11/8 strong thrifty clerk
• Shujah, emir of Cairo - 9/7/9/10/8 fortune builder
• Abdul-Qadir, emir of Sennar - 10/9/10/9/11 gruff diplomat

None of them were really suitable for role of either Ibadi Caliph or The Fivefold Sultan.

It was time to visit Ark of the Covenant and pray for the answer. It told me to secretly adopted Coptic religion of my wife Zala, and follow the Christian custom of dividing the realm between all sons.

So I created another kingdom title, empire of Africa, and gave away the titles as follows:

• Hussayn - Ibadi Caliphate, Sultanate of Africa
• Musa - Sultanate of Arabia
• Abdullah - Sultanate of Egypt
• Shujah - Sultanate of Nubia
• Abdul-Qadir - Sultanate of Abyssinia

With Oman and Ifat remaining as my direct vassals.

I'm sure nothing bad can come out of this arrangement, and my sons will live in peace and perfect harmony when I die.

Oh speaking of my wives, they are:

• Zoroastrian-style cousin Samira, mother of Musa and Shujah
• Coptic Ethiopian lustful Zala (none of my Ethiopian vassals had any relatives, but I really wanted one)
• Catholic Inga, granddaughter of former Western Roman Emperor
• Ibadi Attractive quick lustful Maryam, which I found in the wilds while hunting

So it's an Ecumenical marriage.

One thing I tested that works differently than vanilla - if I switch away from Muslim my titles would stay with Turkish succession, they wouldn't become gavelkind or seniority or whatever. So that's nice.
#ck2

Giving each son a fair share will surely lead to peace and prosperity, and there's no way it could possibly backfire.
(direct vassal view)

The Ark of the Covenant told me that I shouldn't be hiding my true faith. I openly proclaimed it, and recreated order of Knights of Saint Mark.

What do you all mean it's arbitrary? Ark of the Covenant told me to do so. Of course you can't see it, you'd go blind, don't you know anything?

Somehow my sons were already fighting each other. Wait, that wasn't supposed to happen!

Eastern Roman Empire is chaos was prime looting ground. I even sacked Constantinople itself, as well as Latin Empire's new capital.

The Assassins killed my wife Maryam of the Wilds. I married Queen of Pampalona instead. They have crazy custom of cognatic primogeniture over there - where oldest child inherits, even if it's a girl! And they call me arbitrary. We had a son, but he soon died of illness.

My son Caliph Hussayn died, and his only son Abdullah inherited. God cursed him with only 2 boys and 7 girls, and one of those boys died.

And somehow my titles switched from Turkish succession to Agnatic Primogeniture. No idea why, and why it took them a few years to do so. This really messes with my plans - I granted my oldest son the caliphate as he was most learned of them all, but really it would be better if it went to some minor branch of the family

Another dynasty recreated sultanate of Andalusia. It's still all much more fragmented than before, and my Jewish emirs are doing quite well.

I somehow got county in deep Africa, but when African emir with 3k troops attacked me for it, I just told him he can have it. This might be the first war I technically lost in any CK2 campign. Of course I'd have let it go already, but can't grand independence to vassal of a vassal of a vassal.

As another first, I actually managed to assassinate adventurer before he attacked.

And soon after Abdullah I died of old age, leaving the throne to 15 year old 2/5/5/8/0. Sayyid, brooding, frail, arbitrary, deceitful, and chaste.

At least he has potential for long reign.

The boy was ill and died, so I should have accidentally fall her off a tower.

The least appropriate person to deal with religious divisions. At least the regency won't last long.

It was only a few months of regency, but I discovered that mod massively increases penalty to being over demesne limit - and I can't really give away titles during regency. Another pointless nerf.

Another problem I had is that switching between iqta and feudal resets a lot of laws and it's really silly.

Uncle Musa of Arabia conveniently died of rabies, leaving 6 year old cousin in charge.

I did some raiding for gold and prestige, and had to fight vassals - fortunately just the minor emirs, not any of my uncles. Nobody shows any willingness to convert, and I can't just show them Ark of the Covenant, so realm conversion happens one rebellion at a time.

I was so busy over the first few years. When I finally had time to check the Ark of the Covenant, it told me to grand Ibadi Caliphate to my uncle Shujah of Nubia as most learned of them, and to take Coptic faith.

I joined The Community of Saint Anthony instead of the usual Hermetics.

I managed to improve my stewardship education from second to third level, getting to not totally horrible 1/10/20/10/9.

Oman: Part 16: 1121-1130: Christianization of Andalusia

I built a Great Tower, and became an Architect. I didn't save any money for that, so I went over 1000 gold into event debt (I really hate how costs scale with your income, that's such bad mechanic), which took over a year to loot back from India.

Before I did that, every demesne province got:

• thieves' guild: -25% tax
• smugglers' ring: +50% build time +25% build cost -10% disease resistance
• highway rovbber band: -33% levy -2 supply limit

And there was also measles epidemic, which I got. And -33% tax reduction from civil war event. Decade later, quite a few of those modifiers remain.

I scared my craven uncle Abdullah to make him depressed. Then I pressed his claim on Andalusia. I had marriage alliances with Christian kingdoms of Leon and Pampalona, and they were definitely in danger facing newly resurgent Muslims, so I needed to act.

France/Denmark/Norway turned into the Frankish Empire, so they ought to help, but didn't seem interested.

I sort of want to just fragment Andalusia. My uncle surrendered to a faction, so I revoked Andalusia from Sunni faction leader, cleaned up all Shia/Sunni/Hurufi rulers there and granted independence to newly reorganized emirates.

During the cleanup one of the Sunni emirs refused revocation, which was not a big deal, but my uncle Abdul-Qadir of Abyssinia and my cousin Azam of Arabia joined the traitors.

In the middle of all that I got attacked by 35k host - and I didn't even have enough boats to deal with it. The host was walking between two desert provinces nonstop.

He was not a threat while he was stuck in a loop, but there was no province between Tunisia and Alexandria where I could fit even a third of necessary army. Eventually he got unstuck but by then I crushed the rebels.

Since mod is bugged, defeated rebels didn't even get imprisoned, so I had to use console for it. My uncle died in jail before I could punish him, but I revoked Arabia from my cousin.

After all that I destroyed kingdom of Andalusia, letting all emirs go their own way, except for 3 counties I was forced to keep since they remained under Egypt (one in sultan's demesne, two rebelling in a different faction). I'll get rid of them someday.

Portugal is still quite strong, so who knows what's going to happen over there.

What was left of the Shia Caliphate got destroyed by Sunni emir, so my uncle is the only remaining caliph.

Latin Empire got reduced to kingdom of Croatia, somehow.

I bribed an abbot of a monastery to let me sneak out the Seamless Robe of Jesus.

Jews in two emirates are already following different flavors of Judaism. People's Front of Judea and the Judean People's Front or something for all I know. It shows how wise my grandfather was to create two homelands for them, and not too close to each other.
#ck2

The host was stuck in a loop, and rebels-without-temporary-title had bugged warscore as usual.

Later host got unstuck, so I shadowed them with 10k and unsieged holdings. Eventually they got reduced from 37k to 27k and I had enough ships and supplies to face them in Alexandria.

Frankish Empire, German Empire, Roman Empire, Persia, Rajuptana, and Tamilakan all grew quite big.

Islam nearly collapsed, reduced to Sunni Portugal, Sunni Mesopotamia region, Shia West Africa, and some trivial minors. And my vassals of course.

Oman: Part 17: 1130-1140: Godly Seduction

At age of 33 I had only one child, in bad health, so it was time for seduction focus. Betrothal I arranged failed, so I married one of my pregnant lovers. It would have been a cute Medieval love story, but then she died in childbirth, and our daughter was stillborn.

My heir soon died, so the best hope of the dynasty is a few legitimized bastards. I betrothed my oldest bastard to queen Helena of Tuscany, somehow a Polish Catholic Piast, niece of the Polish king - but she died soon suspiciously.

I did what I rarely bother with - actively managing composition of my count - getting as many right religion right culture young women in - and marrying every other woman out. After hard work of seducing everyone who seems like they might bear children the risk of infidels in line to the throne is now much lower.

My Andalusian emirates were still at risk from powerful Sunni Portugal, so I found an Orthodox claimant woman, whom I baited with a good marriage to come over. It's quite common that invitation doesn't work, but marriage offer does. They actually did quite well converting peasants, fighting rebellious peasants and African Muslims. I had a spare daughter for marriage alliance with Portugal and helped her in one of her wars.

After minor rebellion by my rival and distant kinsman, I went on infidel vassal revocation spree. I spared most powerful vassals, as I had too many major wars recently. I also spared the cities as I think they have a decent chance to randomly flip to whatever peasants' believe anyway. Actually I'm not completely sure about city and (non-Muslim) temple inheritance. Muslim temples are iqta government, so they need explicit revocation or conversion.

My cousin sultan of Egypt decided to conquer Jewish homeland in Zab, and emir of Tunis got some more land in Algiers. I guess blobbing will happen if I want it or not. I created new Jewish homeland in Damascus - that's close enough that they can visit Jerusalem long like long weekend holidays, right? Well that lasted 2 years before Muslims took it back. It's surprising Sicily is still there.

I allied what was left of Croatia, which itself was leftover from Latin Empire, just to prevent the new theocratic Roman Empire from taking over. I mean - Ecumenical Patriarch as Emperor and they hold Jerusalem, that's literally "Holy Roman Empire", right?

The last of my uncles died, so now it's my cousins in charge of vassal sultanates.
#ck2

Religious bordergore everywhere. Catholic Western/Northern Europe, Orthodox Eastern Roman Empire, Zoroastrian Persia, and Buddhist East Steppes are the only parts of the map that look reasonably consistent.

My Andalusian emirs are doing surprisingly good job converting peasants and not getting overran. I thought they'd be mostly gone by now, but one emir lost another quickly took back.

Oman: Part 18: 1140-1148: New Jewish Homeland

What was left of legitimate Euforbenos line of Eastern Roman Emperors morphed through Latin Roman Empire through Kingdom of Croatia to now Kingdm of Cyprus and Croatia - controlling just scattered leftovers. The last child of the dynasty was princess Helene, betrothed to by son Aram.

I needed to limit usurper Roman Emperor a bit, so I invited younger brother of doux of Antioch, and put him in charge.

Portugal fell to rebelious infidel vassals while my troops were on the way there. Then I helped protect former queen from the new ruler, and for some reason that didn't overthrow him so I sent one more claimant over. The new claimant didn't last long either.

I let peasants win a war for county of Leon, even though I already had all my troops in place. Somehow they were Coptic Castillians and replaced my Muslim vassal-of-vassal-of-vassal.

My councilors were looking for the secret of immortality, but when they told me about price tag and chances, I was fine to let the whole matter go. Nobody can really be immortal, right?

Not counting my original heir who died, I managed to have 5 sons and 8 daughters - with a harem of 10 lovers in addition to my wife. That was most sinful, so something needed to be done so future emperors can avoid such sin.

It took some serious shenanigans, but I finally managed to get my vassals to approve of law change that daughters can inherit the throne if there are no sons. Let's hope such misfortune never comes, but it's better to be prepared.

The level of outrage was predictably enormous.

I somehow inherited strong claim to sultanate of Mesopotamia. Well, that's a new Jewish homeland plan:

• emirate of Damascus - Ashkenazi Jewish
• emirate of Diar Rabi'a - Ashkenazi Jewish
• emirate of Samarra - Ashkenazi Jewish
• emirate of Baghdad - Ashkenazi Jewish
• emirate of Kufa - Ashkenazi Jewish
• emirate of Tigris - Ashkenazi Jewish
• double county in Esfahan - Ashkenazi Jewish
• emirate of Syria - Levantine converted to Coptic when attacked
• emirate of Palmyra - given to local Levantine Coptic baron who somehow had a castle there
• emirate of Mosul - given as reward to my best commander, Bedouin Coptic

If that's plus Sicily plus leftover Askenazi Karaite baron in Zab doesn't work for the new Jewish homeland, then the whole project was silly and hopeless and I'll try no more. Zoroastrian managed to create themselves homeland without my help, surely the Jews somehow.

I'd like to release West Africa and those two counties in Iberia someday, but for now there's no easy way, and it's not really a priority.
#ck2

Revoking everything then granting independence to every separate emirate worked really well in Andalusia, so I used that as a template for new Jewish homeland is Syria and Mesopotamia.

Remaining Muslims are mostly Portugal and West Africa now, with only a handful in Asia. And my two cousins.

Oman: Part 19: 1148-1161: The Last Descendant of Roman Emperors

I'm increasingly thinking that Reaper's Due is the worst DLC ever, not Conclave. It all sounds so good in theory, but in game about long term relationships between characters, having them die all the damn time to RNG really turns it into Medieval EU4.

Emir Shamar the Dragon of Harar was attacking sultan Musa of Abyssinia for his claim, so I sent him buckets of gold to help him. Maybe it's because of so few mercs available in East Africa (hard to tell, I can only see who I can hire), but he only hired one group, and that wasn't enough to win.

So instead I used weird feature where I ask vassal to surrender in war with another vassal - for a bit of gold. OK, that's ridiculously easy. I used this feature to bribe people into white peace, but this?

When an infidel inherited Egypt I had enough with this nonsense, and got rid of most of them. I used this opportunity to reduce my borders slightly too in West Africa. I left Ibadi Caliph with one duchy, as it's neat tradition that our family leads the few remaining Ibadi faithful.

The game bugged out as usual, and decided that I can't revoke from Catholics/Orthodox legally somehow. Come on vassals, anybody who wants to rebel is welcome to. When faction started gathering around emir Alim of Aidhab, I arrested him.

As I clearly couldn't trust my vassals, I created a small royal retinue of 6k camel cavalry.

My ally king Alexandre of Cyprus and Croatia picked a fight against Hungary/Venice/Lombardy. In theory he had numbers to match, in practice Cyprus had extremely scattered holdings, and it's all useless. I tried to help, but my troops feel land sickness when they're out of sight of the sea, so other than sacking Venice they didn't do much.

King Alexandre died, and his daughter Helene was the last heir of house Euforbenos of legitimate Roman Emperors. As both titles were agnatic, Cyprus and Croatia both went their own way. I did not feel it fitting that such a distinguished dynasty should just die out like this, so I pressed Helene's claim to Cyprus. Oh and she was married to my heir as well.

Due to the usual stupid "political concerns" she wouldn't even ally me. And neither would my wife queen of Navarre. Nor most of the European Christian rulers I had marriage pacts with. I so despise unmoddable AI modifiers. There's not even any sensible way to fix this one with console commands or modding - literally save game editing is the only way.

So obviously she instantly faced vassal revolt, and the only way I could defend her was by raiding the rebels. And after another one she died in battle, leaving her two sons as last remaining descendants of Euforbenos dynasty. Well, it was time to press the older's claim to Cyprus at least. The result is horrible border gore - just as soon as I fixed it in West Africa now I have to face 11 new disconnected counties.

German Empire nicely fell apart a bit more. I got attacked by the Karlings - now reduced to dukes of Gelre.

Yazidis took Damascus from the Jews. Two other emirates fell to Zoroastrians. Jews of Sicily had enough and converted to Orthodox. Still a few left, but they're not doing too well.

I had a strange problem of emira of Meroe, who was following Monophysite heresy. Silly girl, but I managed to educate it out of her peacefully.
#ck2

An advantage of being blind is that he's not bothered by bordergore. Cyprus is seniority so I might get it, and then I'll get rid of extra counties.

Oman: Part 20: 1161-1172: Badshah Aram the Saint

Badshah Abdullah II became infirm at age of 64 and soon died, leaving the realm to his oldest surviving son badshah Aram. Soon after his death he was declared a saint. He actually planned to retire to a monastery, but illness got to him first.

Aram, legitimized bastard of a petty noblewoman Shokouh, 4/9/14/10/16, rumored homosexual, and already excommunicated. He's known to be ambitious, diligent, temperate kind, charitable, proud, and thrifty clerk and a somewhat renowned architect.

Aram at 30 had two sons with late wife Helene, the last heir to Euforbenos dynasty of legitimate Roman Emperors, and his new wife Parween was already pregnant with another baby on the way. Parween was so unremarkable she was probably chosen just to stop the courtiers nagging Aram about remarrying, so he can seduce male lovers in peace.

I thought being lustful, homosexual, with a bunch of other minor vices would be enough to join the Satanists, but apparently they have way higher admittance criteria in the mod, so I joined the Hermetics instead.

The first matter was fate of family:

• brother Abdul-Gafur of Makuria
• half-brother Sa'daddin of Cairo, and was my rival
• half-brother Sadiq of Amman died in battle just a year earlier, left a few weeks posthumous son Musa
• half-brother Mirza of Kufra
• son Nizam was sultan of Cyprus
• son Aram was unlanded

I gave young Musa my excess holdings in Damietta. I didn't want to see Sa'daddin's face ever again, so I gave Egypt of Mirza and Nubia to Abdul-Gafur. Abdul-Gafur soon died, leaving Nubia to my nephew.

Parween died in childbirth to a daughter, so I had to remarry. Queen of Navarre seemed nice. She's going to spend most of her time over there, and won't even know what I do here.

I got attacked by Roman heretics emperor, then by his successor, and most surprisingly by merc company Legion of the Nile.

I wasn't about to take this abuse so I took Constantinople with county claim, enraged all my vassals by taking over Jerusalem and giving it to a bishop. And then pressing previous heretic claim to Armenia to split that damn blob. We hated each other, but it's so rare to see a pretender to theocracy.

Right after I did that I called council of Naqa to end divisions among Eastern Christians. Most peasants accepted the inevitable, but rulers are divided - with patrarch of Armenia and most Greek feudal nobility joining the true faith, while Ecumenical Patriarch and most heretic church hierarchy refusing to do so. For now.

Our family lost the Ibadi Caliphate, I think my nephew sultan of Nubia attacking it for its lands. A shame I guess. Then again it's not like there are that many Ibadis left to lead.

Oman: Part 21: 1172-1180: Council of Naqa Enforcement Wars

If heretics thought Council of Naqa will not be enforced, they were extremely mistaken. I got Croatia a new queen, marrying her to some distant kinsman first. And a new king for Kiev, also securing a dynastic marriage first.

The heretic Roman Empire was in constant turmoil, which I used to disassemble it bit by bit, also moving against Pechenegs and various heretic minors around Black Sea. I tried to find most culturally appropriate local ruler to release each time.

My wife queen of Navarre who refused alliance of course got overthrown by a claimant. I divorced her, and married queen of Lanka instead - somehow a Lithuanian Buddhist - who of course also refused alliance. She died right away of.

Now I'm really sick with Great Pox and I suspect I'll die in two years when treatment effects wear off.

Oh and take a look at modded max map zoom technology - can't do that in vanilla.
#ck2

Except for the steppes, regional patterns are now very well defined, with very few mixed territories.
Muslim finally lost their last Iberian holdings, ceaselessly attacked my Coptic and Catholic rulers.
That ugly color in Mongolia is Tengri ruling over Buddhists.

Oman: Part 22: 1180-1193: Uncontrollable Vassal Blobbing

In spite of my crippling illness I managed to survive another decade, and even wrote my Magnum Opus.

I somehow found a Coptic Bedouin claimant to Persia, grandson of appropriately named Shah Gorgin the Hideous. He lasted there for less than 2 years, but it would be silly not to mess with Persia every now and then.

The Jews lost all their homelands. If that isn't God's will, then I don't know what is. Quite a few of them simply converted when attacked, so who knows, maybe they're just secret Jews.

My vassals have been blobbing uncontrollably - creating kingdoms of Sicily and Algiers, and getting most of Crimea, and Walachia. Realm size increased to 748 - far beyond reasonable clean borders of about 550.

Badshah Aram the Saint died of Great Pox at age of 61, leaving the realm to his son Nizam, 41.

Nizam is 26/1/1/10/22, blinded, scarred, one-handed, blinded, and with flu on top of it all.

Nizam is grey eminence, agile, game master, kind, diligent, charitable, arbitrary, , zealous, and following Antiochian school of Coptic theology.

Somehow Nizam simultaneously inherited position of Grand Magus of The Hermetic Society. In his youth he was his father's apprentice, and since then he advanced far in the ranks.

Oman: Part 23: 1193-1202: Council of Damietta

Only two more places needed to be Coptic to call second council - Baghdad was already done as local Jews converted to Coptic a while back. And Hamadan was deep in Persia, but emir of Fars blobbed his way to its borders so it was only one war, and I could call a council.

Council of Damietta dealt with issue of Nestorianism. I'm not even sure where they found any Nestorians to attend, but apparently they did.

After that the realm needed rapid slimming down - from 773 to 499 holdings. The only somewhat dubious holdings I kept were Constantinople, random bits of Greece, and Maldives, as I'm not done with heretic Romans yet, and raiding India is a fun thing to do when there aren't any wars to fight.

To get borders that clean I had to revoke a lot, and my vassals absolutely hated me for it. They decided to express it with a revolt for agnatic succession. Never seen that one before. Well, my retinue finally had something to do.

I was quite busy joining every single holy war against Roman heretics - it's nice workaround for truce timers. Once their army is wrecked everybody attacks them, and I can join war, 100%, join another war, 100% etc. before they can refill their levy or garrisons. It's somewhat cheesy, but that silly theocracy only exists due to a glitch, and if it was still feudal I'd just find a claimant who's not terribly attached to the heretical ways and be done in one war.

The mod has a mechanic for destroying empires which are too tiny, but that one seems to be exempt, so I'll need to make sure its every last holding is gone. They're down to just 79 holdings.

When I organized a grand tournament I had an option to actually fight in it. Blind, one-handed, with -8 personal combat skill. Yeah, that's totally going to work.

In India Deccan became an empire, and there's a rumor of most horrible epidemic spreading from China which already covers all of North India and is rapidly approaching Oman.
#ck2

Council was so effective all Nestorians converted centuries ago in preparation for it.

I released over 1/3 of my realm. Heretic Roman Empire slimmed down a lot more. I'm still not too fond of all the theocracies around.

It's quite possible that one local or another will recreate Roman Empire after I destroy this one.

Rumors of Black Death coming from India. Waiting for it I avoided 20% chance of death by heart attack during sex event, and my youngest son died of pneumonia, both events sort of putting things in perspective.

Well, it was time to shut the gates anyway.

I thought it would be enough to protect me, but it turns out Death was not amused by my attempts, and came to get me, one of my sons, and some courtiers.

And so died Nizam the Saint at age of 51, and the realm was inherited by Ibrahim at age of 16.

Ibharim is 6/12/17/11/11. Agile, midas touched, charitable, diligent, erudite, ambitious, and gregarious. Amazingly he has zero bad sides.
#ck2

At least the son who died was one of the younger ones, not 16 year old amazing heir. Otherwise it would be really awkward.

Oman: Part 25: 1203-1214: The Council of Muscat

My courtiers convincingly argued that Black Death is Jews' fault, so they all got expelled, and just a few years later Black Death was completely gone!

The seclusion didn't help me, and I soon became greedy, cynical, and craven.

My cousin's prosperity faction basically extorted money from me, and considering how hard war would be during the plague I just paid them off. I like factions in the mod, they sometimes demand annoying but not ridiculous things like that.

My sister had symptoms of the Plague, but I couldn't just kick her out. And soon I got infected as well, but God approved of my kindness, and we both survived it. The Black Death reached Balkans and Italy but no further.

Well, clearly it was God's way of sending message to the Pope, I just wish he chose a different direction to deliver his punishment - like from the West maybe? Send a plague of angry whales up Tiber?

I replaced the pope with one more to my liking. Then I called final Ecumenical Council to unite all Christianity. Big empires all accepted the inevitable, but some minor kings like Tuscany, Sweden, Hungary, Ireland, Castille, and Bohemia remained heretics for now.

I established imperial administration - which in the mod actually doesn't do that much. Apparently it randomly gives my commanders claim on my empire sometimes - and the bastard tried to challenge me for a duel! As learned member of The Hermetic Society I have to say science discovered such claims drastically reduce life expectancy.

The great khagan of Mongol Empire arrived, so I did the most reasonable thing and arranged for some marriage alliances. Mongols decided to declare subjugation war on Nicaea. Amazingly those Mongols suffer certain degree of attrition, so what arrived in Nicaea was about half the original army.

I decided to prank Mongols and just got half of Nicaea for a claimant before they even got here.

Mongols as soon as they subjugated what was left of Nicaea released it and left. WTF?

Next the Mongols declared subjugation of Achaia. This time they settled there, with less than a third of their original troops left.

I suspect what's screwing with them is that Far East of the map is all feudal now, and nomads are only in central part.

Predictably, my vassals started blobbing again.

Zoroastrian lands turned into Zoroastrian vs Mazdaki mess.

I gave away some of my lower quality artifacts just due to shitty interface where stuff is sorted by time I got them instead of something useful like type.
#ck2

Overlap between ecumenical council requirements is so big doing one makes it really easy to do them all.

That went so well I probably won't even have to bother with enforcement, formerly Catholic blobs will do it for me.

That shaded bit in Achaia is where Mongols settled. My marriage alliances with Mongols look just as pointless now as my marriage alliances with Seljuks were two centuries ago.

Oman: Part 26: 1214-1227: The Mongols

CK2+ has imperial decadence mechanic, with empire-tier realms gradually getting messed up every succession, and winning holy wars is the easiest way to drive them down to 0. So the holy war, release a duke, maybe he'll survive maybe he won't approach is actually much better idea that it would seem at first. In addition to being great for prestige and piety farming.

So I actually expanded into oases of Sahara, of course with full intention of releasing that once I can do so cleanly.

I sort of wrote off the Mongols after they lost 2/3 of their troops before getting anything, but they actually converted to Coptic and were very successful at conquering Greek minors before running out of most event troops. I'm not sure why they won't just press button to settle down already, there are no pastures anywhere.

I planned to release my Greek vassals, but didn't want to release them straight into Mongol rule, so I made one of my Greek vassals queen of Nicaea, and she now controls most of Western Anatolia. I'll release her as well as other minors once all the Mongol settle and all their event troops are gone.

Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch lost all lands, but still kept Roman Emperor title, which at this point is just a ridiculous glitch. He even last minute attacked me with 352 soldiers. If it doesn't get destroyed on succession, I might do it by console, as that's glitch piled up on other glitches.

Alchemy experiment blew in my face making me wounded and ugly. There are always risks.

Quite predictably heretic kingdoms are falling. England got Ireland by claim. Poland holy warred Bohemia, Mongols got Croatia, Cordoba got Castile, Sweden and Saxony got inherited properly. Hungary and Tuscany lost most of their lands. On the other hand Frankish Empire went heretic, but with true faith heir.

Surprisingly German Empire is ruled by Karlings, who were long just minor dukes.
#ck2

I was wondering why Mongols won't just settle, but apparently AI Mongols will never click the button. Right now they lost essentially all their event troops, and are losing horde manpower and population due to total lack of pastures.

I think they have some reinforcement events. And they could maybe pillage some holdings. Otherwise the khagan is just a wrong demesne type + angry vassals ruler.

Right now leftover horde population and marriage between khagan's daughter and my brother are the only things that lets them control the Balkans.

Oman: Part 27: 1227-1240: Roman Empire Reborn

I destroyed landless Eastern Roman Empire title by console.

Mongols faced their first indeperndence revolt, and first attack my a minor Greek duke. Mongols still had epic tier commanders (32 and three 29s, all with extra bonuses) and ponies are far stronger than their numbers imply, so they won both wars, but that's so far below their vanilla potential, just 20 years after arrival.

Both my marriage alliances with the Mongols ended at age 27 and 32 (I already mentioned my opinion on Ripper's Due balance). Well, prime raiding grounds just opened. Let's see how well ponies can chase boats.

After I showed everyone that ponies can't run on water, suddenly Mongols found themselves in 6 defensive wars - which in this mod are county-level not duchy-level.

Finally Greek liberation revolt led by Boethios liberated Greece and pushed Mongols to Serbia. Well, that meant I could finally release my Greek vassals - I gave Tiberios kingdom of Nicaea, and released him as well as a lot of dukes. I even sent the Greeks some gold and some minor artifacts as gifts.

Tiberios proclaimed himself the new emperor of the Romans, and went to war with Boethios the Liberator. Minor dukes also started their various claim wars.

I suspect at some point Greeks will unite into some sort of new Roman Empire.

Mongol khagan Temujin died, leaving his realm to his son Jochi the Fearless. With so few troops, maybe a bit of fear would be good for him.

I got heretic Frankish Emperor captured and hanged, which somewhat annoyed the Franks. Next emperor is a Danish cannibal, but at least not a heretic. Their empire now controls all of Scandinavia as well, being the biggest empire in the world.

Zoroastrian Persia got wrecked by its Coptic and Hindu neighbours. They're still surviving but not by much. Somehow Hashishim kept their fortress of Alamut through all the fighting.

England got Ireland, lost it, and got it again.

Poland/Moravia/Bohemia 3-way gavelkinded, a rare sight that late into the game.
#ck2

This looks like legit it would be good EU4 conversion, especially with some blobs fragmented into PUs/vassals.

Oman: Part 28: 1240-1253: Badshah Shaiban the Blessed

A grand debate among the most learned of the Hermetic Society pondered the question why all attempts to reestablish new Jewish homeland failed. The answer was obvious - Jews are naturally merchants not knights, and all the failed homelands were feudal duchies. Of course they couldn't have worked!

Badshah Ibrahim died at age of 53 campaiging in India to make that a reality. He was succeeded by his oldest son Shaiban, age 27.

Shaiban, 7/14/16/10/31, was a legitimized bastard, mastermind theologian, and imperial bureaucrat. He's brawny, hunter, diligent, ambitious, glutonous, drunkard. So basically he hunts a lot and has really good feasts afterwards, with lot of meat and booze. He's also proud and paranoid.

Shaiban was married to an aunt of Karluk duke of Khwarizmia, who back when it was arranged was a major nomad horde controlling most of Central Asia, but at that time they became completely insignificant - and they had no babies in their 8 years of marriage - both of which are totally legitimate grounds for divorce.

So as a rather alternatively religious character, I focused on theology, asked around for a less conventional religious order, and soon became its leader.

I got attacked by another host - and he got 64% warscore for one county. Warscore system is just so ridiculous.

I setup merchant republics for the Jews - Ashkenazi Jewish on Ceylon and Sephardi Jewish in Konkana/Goa. I want to make both real strong before I release them, and as a side project I'm replacing castists Hindus with more agreeable Jains.

I've heard rumors on wiki that I can use favors to arrange a marriage, so I tried that, but of course it doesn't work on matrilieal marriages. Or marriages of any kind to the heir. Like Conclave had just one more way to disappoint.

If God exists, then he's obviously punishing me with Curse of Daughters. I only have two, and one of them died in suspicious circumstances.

After them next in line is my brother Sa'daddin who's in love with his wife Katharina Karling - with some sons. And then another brother with only daughters.

The mod hands out strong claims to my empire like candy to pretty much every commander. It sort of makes sense as a mechanic, except for how often it happens.

Heretic pope lost his land holdings in Orbetello. Last heretic king of Tuscany is just about to lose his last holdings.

Greek King-bishop of Armenia got overthrown by a feudal Armenian revolt.

Mongols are desperately trying to hold onto their shrinking realm. Roman efforts at reunification are going rather poorly, and in fact they're currently losing to independence revolt
#ck2

Some temporary holdings in India, Italy, and Azerbaijan to be released soon.

Punjab and Rajputana are Hindu blobs. Khorasan is Coptic Persians.

Portugal and Castille have a PU.

Oman: Part 29: 1253-1258: Punishment for Sins

My brother's wife Katharina Karling was the rightful German Empress - as can be clearly seen from her name. Of course as it's elective, it's all of little dynastic consequence.

I was trying my best to break up Frankish Empire, but the tooltip claiming I could press weak claims to its constituent kingdoms lied. They probably changed it from vanilla, but never updated the tooltip. A few other shenanigans failed as well. I managed to split Norway at least.

As my wife couldn't give me one, I turned to seduction to have a son. Soon I had 2 sons and 3 more daughters. By the way penalties for bastards should really be increased: -2 diplomacy and temporary penalties with close dynasty members are just too insignificant.

All my vassal Jains were turning Hindu non stop. WTF is up that?

And soon, due to corruption of body and soul, I died, leaving the realm to 1 year old sickly son Najib. Next in line of succesion are: even younger son Akin, four daughters (14, 1, 0, 0), brother Sa'daddin, his sons with Katherina Karling etc.

I'm not sure if 1 year old son is really better than 14 year old daughter. And it's wouldn't surprise me if she ended up inheriting anyway.

The regent and steward is Pope in Rome. Other council members are prince-archbishops of Acre and Jerusalem, and sultans of Nubia and Abyssinia. So nobody suspected anything.

Narrowly avoided second Great Schism here.

Well, this is awkward.

Satanist events now randomly give -3 health for a few years. And also randomly give stressed for further -1 health. They might have gone too far with the nerfs.

Oman: Part 30: 1258-1272: Childhood of Badshah Najib

My father was declared Coptic saint - apparently it really doesn't matter what you did in your life, as long as you were best buddies with Church authorities, which he definitely was.

As a 1 year old I didn't do much else than eat and poo, but the adults continued my father's plans - especially war with Frankish Empire in my name. Frankish Empire had 100k troops vs ours 80k and my aunt's Germany 30k. There were more troops in India and royal retinue, but it's just so awkward to transport them all over.

I only had enough ships in Mediterranear to ferry 74k anyway, and a lot of that due to unplanned bordergore which allowed teleporting boats to the other side of Suez.

Minor peasant revolts also helped us, but they don't scale with target size, so it was only 5k distraction. Winter attrition helped us a lot more while Frankish troops walked from Scandinavia.

As I was growing up, my armies were fighting to help my aunt Katharina Karling on German throne. Aunt Katharina is tall and mean, don't they know not to mess with her? Then my uncle died, and she was no longer my aunt... But she's still mum of my 4 cousins, shouldn't that count?

I survived being a sickly child, flu, host attack, bullying my by younger brother, rivalry with a rowdy blind girl, endlessly changing regents (game of course ignored designated regent as usual), vassal revolt, and two attacks my Indians.

I finally came of age, as 2/9/7/7/11 cynical diligent thrifty clerk, which are not exactly the most amazing stats.

Two of my heirs - my brother and nephew - died under suspicious circumstances. Next in line is my older sister.

Mongol Empire got inherited by some Tengri grandson of Temujin, now they're back to Coptic, and reduced to a single county.

Former Roman Empire is getting unified into 4 regional powers - Greek merchant republic of Magna Graecia, Greek Morea, Greek Roman Empire, and Armenian 3-kingdom of Armenia/Georgia/Trebizond.

New Roman Emperor is a Monophysite, so maybe something ought to be done about that. And the Hindus definitely need to be punished for their attacks.
#ck2

What's Kiev's secret for avoiding bordergore?

Rather poor luck with education, and losing two male heirs. If my father didn't desperately try to get a male heir, Faghira would probably be a very successful empress by now.

Oman: Part 31: 1272-1281: Cognatic Succession

After 15 year recency it became clear that succession needs to be reformed, and the oldest child will inferit, regardless of its gender. There were 6 women in line of succession anyway, 3 sisters, followed by 3 nieces - all boys died in suspicious circumstances in some kind of vast feminist conspiracy.

It took serious effort, serious bribery, and some assassinations to get vassals to agree that my titles to follow cognatic line. And predictably my oldest child is a daugher. Now vassals hate me up to -125 for just this change.

Indians needed to be punished, and after creating Ashkenazi and Sephardi merchant republics or the Jews I decided to create another one for Khazar Jews. When I found a Wend Jew, I gave him a merchant republic as well.

As Roman Empire went Monophysite, everybody just ganged up on them. By the time new dynasty took over, it got reduced to just 8 counties, and it seems most unlikely it will ever recover.

My aunt Katharina unsurprisingly lost German throne. Kaiser Adolf Karling of German Empire took over. Nothing ominous about that name.

On Adolf's coronation feast king of Morea duelled Mongol khagan and died. I married my niece to king's son. Neither Morea nor Roman Empire controls Constantinople, it got lost to Nicaea during Monophysite wars.

Denmark broke off from the ever shrinking Frankish Empire, which is now basically a big Sweden.

I got nearly twice as big as I want, but Indian holdings can only be released once Hindus get a lot more beating - it's pretty difficult to do that gradually without them overruning my Jews and Jains.

Oman: Part 32: 1281-1297: Quest for Treasures

My spies made a list of treasures I wanted to own, and managed to get:

• The Fetish of Souls - greatest West African Pagan relic, hard to say what it does but some spirits are sure involved
• Yada Tashy - greatest Tengri relic, stone able to summon rain
• Sampo - greatest Suomenusko relic, Mill of Fortune able to produce grain, flour, or salt from nothing

Other than that, I made a lot of attempts in every way I could think of, but RNG was fairly poor.

I split Armenia from Georgia, and Sweden from Frankish Empire. Frankish Empire got destroyed soon after.

I married two of my many nieces to two strongest rulers of former Roman Empire - despot Belisarious of Morea and Greece, and basileus Khalil.

Belisarious managed to destroy what was left of the Mongols; and Khalil got Constantinople. Between the two they managed to vassalize by diplomacy or force all Greek minors. Nicaea later rebelled against the emperor, but it won't last.

If those two somehow got united, that would be pretty big Roman Empire. They're married to sisters, so it's sort of dynastic connection, but not by game logic.

4-way kingdom of Castile/Portugal/North Sea/Tassil looks really big, and is mutually next in line to inherit 2-way kingdom of Morocco/Canarias. It's some Scottish dynasty that went native Castillian - they used to be vassals of king of Leon, and got the throne when their line died out. Somehow they managed to subjugate Bedouin emirs I installed when I crushed Muslim Andalusia. Very successful story for a minor AI house.

A lot of blobs like Kiev, Persia, Castille - pretty much whoever I don't mess up with ends up blobbing. On the other hand it's been 300 years.

That Gzi OPM up Ural is the last nomad realm.

Oman: Part 33: 1297-1038: The Sunset Invasion

It's been a long while since I last played. Mostly as a reminder, I split Kiev from Muscovy/Volga, but since it's same dynasty with agnatic seniority, it's going to reunite soon anyway.

As otherwise nothing was going to happen for the rest of the game, I reenabled Mongols and Aztecs to historical, as they were both set to reduced change. Then I remembered Mongols actually invaded. Well, I guess I'll increase the chances so Aztec happen faster.

As if to prepare for that Castile became empire, with somewhat dubious color.

Aztecs invaded, got two counties by event, then attacked Castillian Revolt for 3 more counties. Yeah, great use of 177k event troops. After that Aztecs stopped derping and went through Castile, Navarra, into France.

I was hoping for a flood of French refugees with important relics, but somehow they managed to keep enough titles to stay as Aztec vassals.

Normally at this point crusades start to happen - however Copts have no crusades. Somehow Catholic pope Ioannes XVII, still considered relevant in one county in Estonia, decided to call crusades.

At age of 51 I was growing tired of ruling. I decided to join monk community, and abdicated for my daugthter Setara the Young. Long may she reign.

Setara is 13/6/9/13/14, scholarly theologian, of Alexandrine school, with sympathy for Judaism, and rumored homosexual. She's game master, diligent, trusting, and cynical. Married to her cousin Mahni, and with daughter, two sisters, and a younger brother, succession will be secure.

Oman: Part 34: 1308-1325: Empress Setara the Young

So apparently abdicating doesn't transfer money - which is somewhat tolerable - but it also doesn't transfer artifacts in treasury, which is really damn annoying. Feels like an oversight, but not a huge deal, my old father was going to die soon - as indeed he did just three years after abdicating. Monk life didn't suit him.

Without Ark of Covenant to guide me, I decided to look for darker powers instead. Instead of researching astrology, I searched for Necronomicon.

I advanced quickly in ranks, and when High Priest asked me to sacrifice a ruler, I got him kidnapped, sacrificed him, and became High Priestess myself.

As for other dark magic, I'm gay, my husband's gay, but we're still somehow lovers. Definitely dark magic. But it wasn't working well enough, and we only had one surviving daughter, so I summoned Satan for some help.

Somehow one of Satanic orgies cured my of my gayness. I got the Great Pox, and used dark magic to heal it as well.

I was bored of regular debauchery, so with a friend I raided a peasant hut, and ate the peasants inside, leaving just one alive to tell the story. This led to some minor peasant unrest.

Aztecs continued their rampage. None of Western rulers wanted to ally me, so I did a bit of raiding against Aztecs. Only when they tried to attack Andalusia I put a stop to it, but that war Aztecs quickly peaced out with just some gold, losing no troops in it.

Aztecs got attacked by a 33k host. The host won, but got its target county as vassal of Aztecs anyway. Then they tried to revoke his county, got into a short war, which he lost. Really weird, not sure if mod bug or not.

Using gold looted from the Aztecs I bribed everyone in their empire, got their emperor killed, putting 3 year old baby in charge. This is likely to stop Aztecs from doing anything for very long time.

I managed to get Iron Crown of Lombardy and Bones of St. Peter from refugees fleeing the Aztecs.

Despot of Morea seized Constantinople from Roman Basileus. Mostly because broken AI would not ally me. Then Morea gavelkinded splitting Greece away. There's little hope of all that coming together ever.

I finally got rid of my Indian vassals. Hopefully all the Jews, Jains, and Buddhists I left there can handle remaining Hindus.
#ck2

Withdrawing from India is already a disaster, with the Jews losing land. Bengal is Buddhist so whatever, but Rajputana got inherited from Jain by a Hindu.

Oman: Part 35: 1325-1333: Great Aztec War

I intervened to split Persia from Baluchistan, in Rajuputana for Jain ruler.

In vanilla you can declare tributary wars no matter what, in the mod I can demand tribute once if my army is at least 10% bigger. Aztecs finally lost enough event troops for that, and they refused to pay.

I didn't even have a strategy for fighting Aztecs - I just landed some troops on their capital, and they doomstacked to crash me, losing fairly few troops. So I tried again, and it worked a lot better. And then third time.

Even before my war ended, adventurer successfully took Essex from the Aztecs, and German Empire won holy warred Aztecs for Brabant.

I became gay again after being not-gay for a few years.

I built a pyramid for ever 5k gold for my dead dog. That apparently reduces peasant unrest in the capital.

And soon after, at age of 54, Satan took me to hell, leaving the realm to my daughter Faghira.

Faghira, 23, 12/16/9/11/11, tough soldier, martial lady, cynical, diligent, paranoid, lustful, honest, and suffering from camp fever. Married to her cousin Samir the Zealot, basileus of the Romans.

Their one year old son Shujah is heir to both empires.
#ck2

Aztec ethnically cleansed all their vassals, so independence revolt in by other Aztecs. Even with almost no event troops left, their empire is still fairly strong, and Coptic pushback so far had limited success.

Oman: Part 36: 1333-1338: Empress Faghira

I inherited decadent realm from my mother who was rumored to be more concerned about dark magic than running the realm - and my cousin-husband Roman Emperor Samir was running his realm into the ground, losing to Greeks and peasants.

He was also bad in other matters, fortunately there's plenty of strong young men in my court.

I intervened to split Portugal/Castile and Georgia/Armenia - tried England/Wales split too, but Wales disappeared on claimant takeover instead.

Aztec Empire got inherited by a Cuman grandson of first emperor, and shattered.

My plans didn't last long, as soon I got cancer and died, leaving the realm to 5 year old Shujah, the only one who's really also son of Roman Emperor, all others being secretly bastards.

Shujah is 1/2/4/0/2, born in purple, and basically a blank slate at this point. His regent is his old great-aunt Qamara, but knowing the game, regency will probably reset every week.

Faghira's brief reign, less than 5 years, failed to stop empire from becoming increasingly decadent.
#ck2

France / North Spain are shattered leftovers of Aztec Empire, Kingdom of Brittany being the only significant one.

Kiev on seniority has been shockingly stable over the years.

Emperor of Oman and heir to Roman Empire which just recently regained its capital.

Oman: Part 37: 1338-1350: Empreror Shujah

The regent obviously reset after a few days, and then a few more times. There were some rumors in dev notes that this might get fixed next patch.

My father died in suspicious circumstances, leaving me with Roman Empire throne. I had very limited interest in it, so I just gave it away to my younger brother after making sure some of my other siblings get some lands there. I'm sure they'll all do just fine. That's the first time ever I'm giving away whole empire just like that.

I became willful, fussy, and curious.

Aztec minors were getting in the fights with German minors. Other than that the world was mostly static.

Anyway, we reached the point where the game needs to get converted to EU4. I'll give a quick recap of 1350-1444 in next post, and then it's a new game.
#ck2

Russian Empire randomly became my tributary by some inheritance weirdness.

Culture map is mostly really nice.

Religious map is quite boring. India is the only fun place.

Oman: Part 38: 1350-1444: What Happened

Great empires mostly fragmented, with their vassals becoming independent.

Oman lost most of its lands outside its Arabian core. Russia fell apart completely, Bengal gavelkinded away Orissa. By some miracle, most of the border gore got cleaned up, with very few countries and cultures having disconnected parts. Except HRE of course, here even miracle wouldn't be enough.

Collapse of Oman undid all the efforts to unite Christianity. Patriarchs of Rome and Constantinople couldn't accept their reduced position, and within just a few generations all the divisions reemerged, even if their theology was somewhat closer than before.

A lot of branches of Hashimid dynasty adopted local ways as well, as well as other dynasties ruling over foreigners.

Not sure who to play as, some obvious ideas:
• colonizer minor like Portugal
• some minor in Indian Ocean like Jewish Ceylon or some Madagascar minor
• one of Russian minors to enjoy that DLC
• someone to challenge Ming for East Asia domination like Bengal
• not sure if Aztecs even work without getting instant doom - if yes, then maybe try to survive as one of them
#ck2 #eu4

Oman is reduced to super rich core, Russia is broken, elsewhere it's mostly just border gore cleanup.

I thought about adding more than 3 branches, but it should be fine.

I spent more time cleaning up culture borders than was reasonable.

HRE a good deal bigger than vanilla. I'll add a few provinces before I start for bordergore cleanup (can't do it pre-conversion).
